Cast aluminum gas tank cap for an Ahrens-Fox fire engine, circa 1920s to 1940s. This aluminum cap has the word GAS cast at the center of a circle with two opposing arms. It is threaded on the underside and has the letters A.F.F.E CO and the numbers 7878 cast inside the cap. I figured out the meaning of the initials pretty quickly—Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Co. An internet search for that and the part number yielded up nothing. I suspect this is the fuel tank cap for an Ahrens-Fox fire engine from the 1920s or 1930s. It measures 4 ¼” in diameter, 8” from arm tip to arm tip, and is about 1” deep. The aluminum gas cap is in good or better condition with some white corrosion spots around the edges and in the threads. I see no break, cracks, or significant damage otherwise. A very nice early fire engine and firefighting related item!
