Fresh find rusty metal padlock with key, in working condition, from a barn in Westerly, Rhode Island, circa 1890s to 1910s. The steel padlock has a keyhole cover made of brass or bronze. There are two rusty keys with it—only one fits the lock. The lock works very well. It measures 4 ½” by 3 ½”. Perhaps the most fascinating thing about this padlock is the complex shape of the key. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it. I have not cleaned the lock nor oiled the mechanism. I figure this is a rare example of an untouched barn find and perhaps a great movie prop! The lock is in only good condition due to its barn find character, with a thin layer of corrosion coating most all of the surfaces. The brass or bronze keyhole surround and cover has a dark patina. A really cool antique lock!
