Rebound volume of Graham’s Lady’s and Gentlemen’s Magazine, Vol. XIX and XX, comprising full issues July 1841 to June 1842. Frontispiece is a gorgeous watercolor The volume was rebound in 1974 by a man in Massachusetts; his name and address appear inside the back cover. Overall good condition.

This volume includes at least 12 signed pieces by Poe, including:

July 1841: Story “A Few Words on Secret Writing” first printing;

August 1841: Story “The Colloquy of Monos and Una” first printing; editorial response to reader @ “Secret Writing,” first printing; 

September 1841: Story “Never Bet Your Head, A Moral Tale” first printing; poem “To Helen;”

October 1841: Poem “Israfel”

November 1841: Story “A Chapter on Autography” (11 pages, part 1 of 4) first printing;

December 1841: Story “A Chapter on Autography” (14 pages, part 2 of 4) first printing;

January 1842: Story “An Appendix of Autographs” (5 pages)

Also: Longfellow’s poem “The Goblet of Life”

February 1842: Story “A Few Words About Brainard” and possibly the first piece in the issue, “Harper’s Ferry.”

Also: “Original Letter from Charles Dickens” (unsigned parenthetical introduction by Poe)

March 1842: Poem “To One Departed”

April 1842: Story “Life In Death”

Also: Review of Hawthorne’s “Twice-Told Tales”

May 1842: Story “The Mask of the Red Death, A Fantasy”

June 1842: No pieces signed by Poe. Does include a James Russell Lowell poem, “Farewell.”
