This is the perfect piece for an early 1900s bar. Matches were sold through this coin-operated vending machine, patented May 17, 1910. The name of Peregoy & Moore Cigar Company (of Council Bluffs, Iowa) appears on the machine, but I don't know if they held the patent or if they paid to put their advertising on the machine. With the drop of a penny, one box of matches, 1-1/2" x 2", would be dispatched to the wooden tray below.
We do not have a key, so could not open the machine to clean the glass or to retrieve the few loose coins that remain.
Measures: 14" tall x 10-1/2" wide x 8-5/8" deep.
