Poster from the Democratic Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine with an illustration of a masked Palestinian militant with a gun, circa 1960s to 1970s. The poster features an illustration of the back of a crouching figure armed with a machine gun. The text reads: Step by Step—Organize the Masses, Around the Armed Struggle for Total Revolution, Democratic Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. In 1969, a faction in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine split of to form the PDFLP (similar to poster), a group that espoused Maoism. The poster seems consistent with that Communist ideal, and I suspect it dates to about 1970. The group would settle on the name Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine soon after. This poster is from the collection of the labor historian Scott Malloy. I did a pretty thorough internet search but could find no information about this poster. I think it might be quite rare. The poster measures just under 18” by 25” and is in only good condition but is complete. It probably hung in the dorm room of some college kid in the 1970s and shows the expected wear and soiling. There’s loss at the corners, tape residue at the corners and along the edges, some edge tears (a few at bottom right edge), and a fold mark in the center. An important piece of Palestinian history!
