Coin silver teaspoon likely made by Peter Pallais of Bermuda, with engraved initials HW on the handle, circa 1790s. The small coin spoon has a hallmark with the initials PP set with an oval stamped twice on the back of the handle. The initials HW are engraved on the front of the handle. Note how deep the attached bowl is. Peter Pallais, a French born convict immigrant, was active as a goldsmith and silversmith at St. Georges from 1787 to 1809, initially in partnership with Thomas Batchley but on his own after 1792. He removed to Hamilton in 1809 and died in 1811. I suspect this spoon dates to the 1790s. This hallmark, in the oval, is a bit different from the other two marks I could find pictured on websites, but I do suspect this spoon is by Pallais. The spoon measures just over 5 ¼” long, and the bowl is just over 1” at its widest. It weighs just over a half ounce. The spoon is in very good or better condition with some expected wear at the business end of the bowl. I see no dings, dents, or damage otherwise. I have not polished it. A wonderful and rare early Bermudian coin silver spoon!
