A group of 12 large-size Cardboard Soldiers, each with an attached wooden “stand” that allows them to stand upright. 2 are mounted on prancing horses, swords drawn; the other 10 are standing at attention with rifles at the ready. Given the uniforms, I am assuming these are European soldiers dating to the mid-late 19th century. The mounted soldiers are 3 7/8” across at the base and about 12 3/4” tall; the foot soldiers are about the same width at the bottom and vary in height between 12 ¾” and 13”. Condition on all is fine to very fine: one foot soldier’s head was bent-back too far and there is a line at the neck and but the head remains attached and there is some very minor, scattered surface scuffing, but no other damage. These originally were kids’ toys: I think they came in a set along with a couple of balls and the idea was to roll the balls and knock as many of the soldiers down as possible (a form of bowling!). It is very unusual to find a “platoon” this large.
