Item Details

@ 1870s J.F. Mears stereograph of G.A. Keyes Oyster Saloon in the Putnam County town of Palatka, Fla., with an ox-drawn cart and numerous people, including a young African-American boy sitting on the cart. Other signs on the saloon say “oysters, hot coffee, cold meats” and “sample room.” An identical unmarked stereograph is in the Smithsonian’s Isadore Warshaw Collection of Business Americana. Our research did find a third identical stereograph which does have the publisher’s name, “J.F. Mears, Palatka.”
