A glorious Georgian silver ring, closed-back set in silver with black-dot* diamond paste stones in a six-petalled flower center with a halo of smaller diamond paste stones. A bifurcated silver shank joins at the shoulders. The ring is English, and currently a size 11. Amazing sparkle on the hand!
*The "black-spot/black-dot" pastes are so named because jewelers in the 1700's, and earlier, would sometimes rub a spot (or dot) of black, pitch-like paint across the flat cut or pointed bottom of the culet (under) of some faceted paste stones. It was often used to create the look of mine cut or European cut diamonds or gemstones when the stone was viewed from the top (or table).

When Jan, a collector of antique jewelry and period furniture, and John, a teacher and musicologist, met in the early 1980’s, it was no accident that their shared interests in music, art, and antiquities would morph into a rewarding enterprise. Jan’s family had been in the jewelry business since the 1800’s, and her passion for early jewels and period English furniture are grounded in this background. John’s career had been in the fields of teaching, conducting, and musicology, with an emphasis on the 16th and 17th centuries.
