Miniature Portrait of a Gentleman. Probably J.H. Gillespie.

Item Details

Nicely executed profile portrait miniature in a ribbon frame.  This is probably the work of J.H. Gillespie.  The gentleman is dressed in an overcoat and blue vest with a jeweled clasp.  His hair is parted and he has a little shadow beard.  There is a bit of flaking, particularly at the coat collar and the bottom.  The frame is pine with a mahogany ribbon insert and facial band.  There is a small chip lower right. Ca. 1810-1820.  Overall: 5 1/4" X 4 3/4".  Sight: 3" X 2 1/2".
