Item Details

Champagne bottle from G.H. Mumm & Co. of Reims, France, with original labels, dated 1881 and 1882. The green bottle with the push up bottom has its two original labels, neck band, and remnants of the foil seal. The label at bottom has a border and text printed in gold, as well as a small circular logo with an eagle and G.H. Mumm & Co., G. de Bary. The text on that label reads Extra Dry, G.H. Mumm & Co., Reims, France, Trade Mark No. 9780, Registered 7th Nov. 1881, F. DeBary & Co., Sole Agents for the U.S. The small circular label or seal on the shoulder above has the eagle at center with G.H. Mumm & Co. and G. DeBary, above and below it. There’s bit of foil still on the neck of the bottle. This bottle came out of the basement of the Nathan G. Fish house in West Mystic, Connecticut. It may have been kept as a keepsake of a marriage or other important family event. The bottle measures 10” tall by just under 3” diameter at the base and is in good to very good condition. The bottle itself shows no damage, but the labels have some loss around the edges. There are also three holes in the bottom label. A wonderful rare survivor and a pretty champagne bottle!
