Early American dark olive glass whiskey bottle with a sand chip pontil mark and applied lip and collar, circa 1830s to 1840s. The tall bottle is dark olive in color and has a good amount of bubbles and inconsistencies in the glass. There are light mold marks around the base of the shoulder and extending a short way up to the neck. The lip and collar are applied to the bottle. The neck is a bit distorted in shape, with a bulge at center, and there’s a large open bubble inside the neck (not a crack or break). I had an open pontil olive chestnut bottle in my collection for many years that had the same sort applied lip and collar, perhaps from the same New England glass house. Like that chestnut, this early liquor bottle came from an estate in East Lyme, Connecticut. The bottle stands just under 11” tall and is 3 ¼” in diameter at the base. It is in very good condition with the wear and soiling consistent with its age and careful use. There’s a fair bit of scuff wear on the outside when viewed in the light. A very nice early American whiskey bottle!
